WHAT IS MOLE?
Moles are benign skin lesions that occur due to the proliferation of cells called melanocytes in the body. While there are benign moles, there are also malignant moles that are a sign of skin cancer. It is necessary to consult a dermatologist as soon as moles are first noticed. Consulting a dermatologist early to diagnose possible problems is an important step in mole treatment.

HOW ARE MOLES DIAGNOSED?
Moles are divided into different types. Normal moles are harmless. There are also types of moles called melanomas that are harmful and can cause skin cancer. A method called dermatoscopy is used to distinguish these two types. In this application, the location of each mole that appears is recorded and a kind of mapping is made. Then, the structure of all moles is examined. Moles that are considered risky are re-observed at regular intervals and the change between their initial state and current state is checked. The changes in the moles are observed and it is checked whether there is a risk of skin cancer.

WHAT IS ME MAPPING?
The mole mapping method is performed by using a combination of total body photography and computerized digital dermatoscopy. Dermatoscopy is a skin magnifier with special lighting. It is very useful in diagnosing especially dark-colored lesions on the skin. In this way, it makes visible changes and structural features that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. It is an indispensable application for the early diagnosis of melanoma. Dermatologists receive special training in the use of dermoscopes and diagnose risky moles and skin formations through dermoscopic examination.

HOW TO DO MOLE MAPPING?
Mole mapping occurs by digitally photographing people's bodies from various angles. Afterward, the patient's moles are examined one by one with a device called dermatoscopy and photographed. These moles are matched with moles on clinically taken body photographs and the patients' mole map is created. Moles other than these are monitored at regular intervals depending on the risk situation. During follow-up visits, dermatoscopic photographs of the patient's moles are renewed and compared with the previous ones to check whether there is any suspicious change. At the same time, it is checked whether there is a newly formed lesion by looking at body photographs. It is very important to use these two methods together.

HOW ARE MOLES TREATED?
Moles are lesions that require detailed examination and follow-up. Therefore, people trying to treat these lesions on their own at home do not produce positive results. Substances prepared at home and applied to moles may cause allergic reactions. This may cause redness and scarring. The most logical choice for mole treatment is to be under the control of a dermatologist. Determination of the most appropriate treatment method is determined by the decision of the dermatologist and the aim is to obtain the best possible result. Especially those with a family history of skin cancer called melanoma, those with multiple moles, or those with a previous history of risky moles should be followed up regularly. It is also very important for a person to keep track of his/herself.
